Ricky Stern, CFP®, CIMA®


Ricky Stern has served as the President of GAR Disability Advocates as well as the Senior Vice President of GAR’s parent company Asta Funding Inc. (NASDAQ:ASFI) since 2014. Mr. Stern has worked at GAR since the company’s inception, and has overseen the company grow from five employees in one office to over 70 employees working in eight offices across the country. Ricky is a strong believer in GAR Disability’s mission statement of assisting people in obtaining the benefits that they rightfully deserve. Mr. Stern has earned a MBA from Pace University in 2011, obtained the Certified Financial Planner designation in October 2013, and became a Certified Investment Management Analyst in February 2014. Mr Stern has studied at the Wharton School of Business at New York University’s Stern School of Business participating in the respective schools’ Executive Education programs. Ricky is a co-host of “The German Batista Radio Show” airing Sunday afternoons from 2:00-3:00 pm on 1380 AM in New York City. Michael L. Kalmus, ESQ.

General Counsel

Michael L. Kalmus serves as the General Counsel of GAR Disabilities Advocates. In the course of his career, Michael has become highly regarded for his experience in all things medical and has successfully represented thousands of individual clients in conjunction with private disability insurance claims, Social Security disability claims and disability retirement pensions for public sector employees. Michael joined GAR in 2014, bringing over 25 years of experience handling all matters related to disability claims. Within GAR Disability Advocates, Mr. Kalmus is responsible for selection and qualification of cases that the firm accepts, as well as the compliance of the firm with Social Security regulations. Michael Kalmus received a Juris Doctor degree from Benjamin Cardozo School of Law in 1980, and is a member in good standing of both the New Jersey and New York State Bar Associations.
