More people are applying for Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income than ever before. The increase of applications, combined with the Social Security Administration reducing staff and hours of operation, has caused a severe backlog, thereby increasing time from application to approval as high as three years. Unfortunately, this forces many disabled people into severe financial distress, bankruptcy, or worse. With GAR as your advocate, you are far more likely to win your benefits without the need to go to a hearing.

Understanding SSD With Help from GAR Disability Advocates

Social Security disability benefits are awarded to individuals who have a chronic illness or condition that makes it difficult or impossible for them to work. There are two different types of Social Security disability benefits, and the type awarded is based upon individual circumstances. It can be helpful for people applying for benefits to understand the different types so they can better anticipate the amount of payment that they will receive. Disability is defined by the Social Security Administration (SSA) as the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of a medically determinable physical or mental impairment(s) which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of no less than 12 months. Applicants are responsible for proving that they are disabled and unable to work for at least 12 months. You may not simply allege your inability to work, but must prove it by submitting sufficient and credible medical evidence. The development of evidence is crucial to winning your case. The SSA will hire medical and vocational experts who often attempt to prove that you are able to work. The good news is that you are entitled to have an advocate at your side. The even better news is GAR Disability Advocates ™ does not get paid unless you win! The SSA oversees two federal programs designed to help those not able to work due to long lasting or permanent disabilities: The Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program, and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.
